The Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors voted to light up the courthouse dome with the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag to show the community's solidarity with Ukraine, as they fight to maintain their land, their homes, and their families against the Russian invasion.
Shirley Vermace took the photos with the Civil War monument in the foreground as a reminder of Iowa's commitment to justice, to freedom, to equality. Iowa sent the most soldiers to fight in the Civil War per capita than any other state in the Union. Iowa stands with Ukraine, in their fight for Democracy and freedom today.
