Our office will assist with completing VA forms and applying for VA Benefits, free of charge for veterans and their dependents. Please contact our office for more information.
- We urge you to contact the Veterans Affairs Office regarding the process of completing all forms.
You will need a Certified DD214 (Discharge Papers) to accompany your paperwork. If you have it recorded, contact the Recorder’s Office for a Certified copy at no cost to the veteran. If you do not have it recorded, you should do so.
For Temporary Emergency County Assistance with basic needs, to be eligible for assistance you must:
- Veteran with an honorable discharge
- Be a resident of Winneshiek County for at least 30 days
- Meet income guidelines
- Apply for any other benefits available
- If unemployed provide proof of registration with IowaWorks
- Have an emergent need that can’t be met by other means
